Supply chain management (SCM) is the process of planning, implementing, and controlling the operations of the supply chain as efficiently as possible. Supply Chain Management spans all movement and storage of raw materials, work-in-process inventory, and finished goods from point-of-origin to point-of-consumption.
Mobile Asset Management
Goods and even the transporting vehicle itself can have problems from getting from point A to point B. For example, food that is transported across country can spoil if not kelp in the right temperature.
Applications
One example of a multi-application installation is in long haul trucking particularly involving produce and other perishable cargo, or chemical, radioactive and other hazardous cargo, as well as monitoring the vehicle and its operation, all integrated into a single monitoring system, such as:
- Identifying the tractor and the driver with respect to the cargo
- Identifying the trailers, their condition and location
- Identifying the correct tractor/trailer hookup and when it occurs
- Report when the doors are opened and closed
- Report when the vehicle is moving and when it is stopped for more than a selected time
- Monitoring when the trailer is powered and when power is disconnected
- Monitor the temperature in the trailer, in compartments in the trailer and in specific containers located in the trailer
- Monitor the humidity in the trailer, in compartments in the trailer and in specific containers located in the trailer
- Monitor the carbon dioxide concentration in the trailer, in compartments in the trailer and in specific containers located in the trailer
- Monitor the nitrogen concentration in the trailer, in compartments in the trailer and in specific containers located in the trailer
- Monitoring the vehicle for gas or liquid leakage from containers
- Monitoring the vehicle for radiation leakage from radioactive cargo
- Monitoring the vehicle for ambient chemical concentrations such as in drug detection
- Monitoring biological cargos for contamination or leakage
- Monitoring the tire pressure of each wheel on the vehicle
- Monitoring the wheel temperature of each wheel on the vehicle
- Sampling three axis acceleration of each wheel to monitor alignment, balance and approaching loss of a wheel or tread
- Monitoring of brakes for impending failure or locked on
- Acoustic monitoring of bearings to warn of lubrication deficiencies
- Monitoring of cargo weight during loading, unloading and while traveling.
- Mechanical or electrical monitoring of equipment associated with the vehicle
- Security monitoring of the vehicle when parked
