Internet-based refers to the type of service the modules were built for.  The internet is an effective and inexpensive means for service.  The internet allows for real-time data communication.  Signals can also be sent through the internet to the modules.  Satellite and Cellular services are somewhat expensive compared to the internet.

Both R-Net™ and LITMIS™ can be easily linked to servers to provide information through the internet where the information would be available for the end user.

Satellite and Cellular service are still needed when monitoring items in a remote area.
